Russians are increasingly being offered to invest in the emission of new digital coins
Russians began to lure into a new scheme of "phone mining" fraud using a mobile application for a phone or a version for a personal computer. Valery Lyakh, director of the department for combating unfair practices of the Bank of Russia, told RIA Novosti about this. According to him, residents of Russia are increasingly being offered to invest in the mining of new digital coins.
“A popular idea of scammers is an offer to invest in the creation or expansion of the capacities of a“ crypto farm, ”Lyakh explained.
The representative of the Central Bank noted that the regulator has already identified one such fraudulent project Artery (Artery Network Corporation). The project's website indicates that the coin is allegedly traded on some Baltic exchange and its price is regularly increasing, but there is no possibility of buying a coin, added Lyakh. According to him, scammers lure money from gullible Russians under the pretext of increasing computing power.
Moreover, the scammers promise that after attracting other participants to the project and accumulating a certain number of coins, mining using a mobile phone will become available to the participants, the representative of the Central Bank explained.
“First of all, these are not even cryptocurrencies, but pseudo-cryptocurrencies – they are not traded anywhere, have no value … You need to clearly understand that if you are offered to exchange money for some exotic cryptocurrencies, then you have no chance of getting them back … And the chance to make money on such supposedly “investments” is approximately equal to the chance to make money by throwing money from a helicopter, ”Lyakh emphasized.
